I am seeking recommendations for a nice spa in San Diego for a long afternoon or evening of R&R. I'm looking for offerings like Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe or Kabuki Baths or Banya in San Francisco. It doesn't have to be all male... in fact, I'd like avoid anything that is overtly sexual in the environment.

Looking online I was led to sites like CondeNast traveler or Reddit, where terms like "girls' day" and "bridal party" came up in descriptions of places. Yikes!!!

Also, I'd rather stay generally west of the 5 or more downtown. My impression is that the further to the northeast I go, the less I like the atmosphere here.

If absolutely necessary, I'm willing to break it up into two locations, like one place for aesthetics (facial, etc.) and then a certified masseur off of masseurfinder. But preferably it would be one place of serenity and pampering. Generally, I'm not price sensitive (though for the massage prices quoted at Rancho Valencia I'd expect a full-service BFE 🤣)

Should I just book a flight to Santa Fe?

Went to Ten thousand waves in Santa fe in December and wasn't too impressed: while the masseur's kneading skills were pretty decent, wasn't too crazy about their co-ed lockers with no dry sauna room offered which I understand was part of their recently completed renovation. What other high end spas do you go to when you're in SF NM?

That is disappointing to read about Ten Thousand Waves. I haven't been in over a decade.

For SF, it's only Kabuki or Banya. But then again, I haven't been to either of those since before the pandemic and then moved from SF.

I really enjoyed Banya. It is as advertised, a Russian bathhouse, replete with fully naked elderly Russian men and women and a lot of other diversity, all enjoying themselves. And you haven't lived until you've been beaten on the back with birch twigs in a very hot dry sauna by a cute, toned Russian boy.

So when I expressed my disappointment about their co-ed locker rooms with single changing locked units with no dry sauna, I learned that owner of TTW is a German guy who's obsessed with the whole Japanese culture to go beyond their spa & sauna experiences. Won't be returning there anytime in the near future.

I'll PM you about Banya: must learn more about seeing hot Russian men in their dry sauna!
