Any info on the Olympic Diner in NYC?

hi, i noticed that the Olympic Diner in NYC was mentioned in a previous message and wondered if anyone has any info on it. Supposedly, it is like Cats used to be. i LOVED Cats! miss it terribly. please give me info if you have it. i'll be in the city this weekend. thanks guys. robb

I could be thinking of the wrong place, but I thought the Olympic was closed down. There is an Olympic Diner on 9th Avenue, but it's a real diner, not the club I think you meant which was near the West Side Highway in the Upper 40's. Don't take my word for it, because I was only there once, but don't be too disappointed when the place is not open for business.

No, NYO, sadly you are thinking of the right place-- the club on 49th Street at the corner of 12th Avenue. Many referred to it as Cats West. And it is indeed closed--as I found when I took a taxi there a few weeks ago, and fortunately didn't let him leave until I had checked the place out.

 

I add my voice to the lament for CATS-- I loved the place, too, and really miss it. It was unique. I still see one of the dancers from Cats, who remembers me, when I visit Stella's (but he doesn't dance there).

 

I'm trying to think of what I would like to write here about Giuliani, but probably better to stop while I can.

sadly, the Olympic Diner is no more. From what I hear from several boricuas that used to dance there, it was owned by the same man who owned Cats. He got into trouble with the authorities and was forced to close Cats. He opened the Olympic Diner but has not and, apparently, will not, be able to re-open. Was supposed to re-open at a site on 48th and 11th but that hasn't happened.

 

I haven't checked it out yet but I hear that Papicock at Club Speed-39th Street-is hot. Fridays or Saturday nights. Modest admission and private lap-dancing.

 

Maybe someone knows more about this. And I also hear that it's easy to find an escort on Latino Fan Club night at the New Esqualito (Thursday nights, I think)
