The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported this morning that on Monday of next week, between 7:00 and 11:00 a.m., six U.S. naval vessels will dock in Fort Lauderdale and let loose 3,000 sailors for a week of shore leave; they will depart on Friday. A variety of activities is planned, from baseball games in Holiday Park to parties at Beach Place.

Experience from previous years would indicate that these sailors are interested in fun and new experiences. Individuals respond to friendly overtures and invitations for a drink or dinner. Many of the sailors walk around in pairs, and this has made setting up three-somes easier than ever. They vary from sweet naive smooth 18 year olds to muscular tattooed thirty-somethings, with all sorts of others in between. There is something for everyone.

If you are interested in sailors and fun, Fort Lauderdale next week is the place to be. I know that I shall be very busy and very happy. The best places for sightings and meetings are all along the beach by Beach Place, all around Riverwalk and First Avenue South, and in the parks at the various athletic events. Happy hunting!

Monday, April 30 - Friday, May 4. This is all in preparation for the McDonald's Air and Sea Show, which is May 5-6 just off of Burger King Beach.

This sounds like Seafair here in Seattle. During the festivities a ship or two will dock near and downtown and Pioneer Square is full of Sailors. Sadly though they can often get out of hand and cause more trouble then usual for the bars and merchants. Example, a few years ago when I worked for corp. Charbucks 3 sailors went into the Charbucks and all 3 ended up in the bathroom and used the sink as their toilet. Durring the weekends and summers this Charbucks is quite busy with a lot of families. Unfort. the baristas didn't have enough sense to demand their commanding officers name as well as theirs. Had I been on watch it would have been to the brig for them. Oh and yes while this happened they were in uniform for some odd reason.

Hugs,

Greg
