Comments: I attended grade school in Billerica in the 1950s. After reading this article, I tried to contact a few of my grade school teachers. Only one is still alive.

 

But, I was surprised that two teachers became principals and another a vice principal. Possible, I suppose because few others professions were open to women back then. I was most surprised that my 5th grade teacher became a principal, but she needed the money after her husband committed suicide when I was in the 7th grade.
