A few months ago I read a post in this forum about hotel room key cards containing the individual's name, credit card information, etc. and that if it fell into the wrong hands, it could be used by an identity thief. Here's the real poop on the subject:

In other words, it's an Urban Myth.

 

I also check with a manager at the Sheraton and she confirmed that the card contained not personal information.

Common sense would suggest that any hotel stupid enough to utilize personal information encoded key cards, especially given how often the cards are lost, would be a hotel wishing to go down in flames. Hotels are in business to attract customers, not stay empty.

 

One must never believe everything one reads. Having half a brain helps to decipher truth from fiction.
