I did that the last year that Sampras won --- 2002. It was a chain hotel that provided bus transportation back and forth to the National Tennis Center from the airport. For some reason, they didn't provide transportation the next year. But, your are right -- all I need is a hotel on the subway or Long Island Railroad line. Any cheap hotels in Port Washington (yeah right)?. Thanks -- I really mean it.

I stayed at the Maritime as I wrote somewhere on this board and I thought it was great. I think it could get noisy and they even provide an extra noise insulation pad for the window. If you're very sensitive to noise, don't stay there. If it's not that big a deal, go ahead.

I hear the ole girl, the Plaza, is being renovated into a condo-hotel. I have actually been thinking about buying one of the hotel rooms. Can't live in it more than 120 days a year, which would be fine since I don't plan to sell my farmhouse down here in Dixie. And when I'm not there, the room can be rented out to hotel guests, and as owner, I reap some of the revenue (minus management fees).

What do you yanks know about this gimmick?

My fear about this type of "investment" is that everything is OK so long as the operation is profitable. But don't forget that if the hotel slips into the red due to poor managemet, I think you are also liable for your percentage share of the losses. And losses in an establishment as huge as the Plaza can run into the millions very quickly.

By the way - how much are they asking for one room? In the portion of the hotel where you outright purchase a suite for permanent occupancy, the asking price for a one bedroom suite overlookinhg the park, is 4 million, plus god only know how much for maintenance and taxes. It's only for the mega rich, IMHO

1.6M to buy one of the hotel rooms, or so I have seen quoted in news articles.

Doesn't sound like a hot deal to me. You can rent a lot of hotel rooms for that kind of coin. And what guarantees do you have that your room will be rented on a regular basis. I'd still be concerned about possible shortfalls.
