I saw this post last (Sunday) night, but I was too

tired to write a reply. I tend to agree with Boston

Guy and I apologize if I am repeating some points he

and others have made.

The term “straight acting” is used primarily in

describing a guy for the purposes of hooking

up - regardless whether it is in an escort add,

a personal added, or describing a guy you want

to set up your friend with on a blind date - it

is not some grand sociological or psychological

category.

I use the term “straight acting” as descriptive

of one (of many) characteristics that help define

the type of man that I find sexually attractive.

I have not been able to find another suitable

word/term. A perhaps more accurate term would be

“not stereotypically gay-acting”, but I think that

more individuals would find that term even more

offensive.

Regarding other suggested terms:

Masculine – the problem with this word is that

too many people have their own definition of

this word. I have met too men who describe

themselves or are described to me as masculine

simply because they are muscular, or hairy or,

older. They may look like a colt model, but

they act and sound like Charles Nelson Riley,

not that there is anything wrong with that – it

is just that I find that a sexual turn-off.

Homophobic – I hope that this was meant in

jest – unless you believe that all straight

men are homophobic

Butch – this word goes beyond straight acting.

Pretzel – I never heard this definition – I

like it, but too many people are probably

unfamiliar with it.

Macho – see butch and add a Spanish accent.

Regarding specific quotes:

<< That's my point. Straight is a sexual orientation,

<< not a mannerism. Therefore, the accurate definition

<< of a gay man who is "straight-acting" would be one

<< who is in the closet and pretends that he likes to

<< fuck females.

Actually that is a description of someone on the “down low”

although I believe this term is currently somewhat restricted

to blacks and Latinos, but I don’t see why white guys can’t

be on the DL.

<< The more important word here, of course, is "acting",

<< as in pretending to be someone else.

Please - this is just semantics would “straight appearing”

be that much better than “straight acting?

Cheers,
