Many here would agree with you. ‘Action’ is not the word I would use. I go to a spa looking to relax. ?

Everyone has a good opinion. Can not tell whose wrong or right. I like to talk with them after i built good relationships with my favorite masseurs. Let’s analyze it little bit. 1, it’s not true they didn’t pay taxes. They have to do If want a good life when they retired. The job only short time when they are young. Nobody wants to get massage from old people right? 2, everyone need food . Shelters, transportation that also need money, not free. This is not a simple maths like you did. Spa also has high season and low season. Sometimes no client. Someone figure out they can get 720 for one week. So 1day 100, 1hr only 13 if 8 hrs a day. I don’t think this is good and enough profit for anyone. 3, some people paid tips according to 20%. I think it doesn’t work on this. For example restaurant staff severs many tables and costumers. But masseur only servers a single person. That’s definitely different. 4, most clients want great massage and more extra. Maybe the client could get great experience at the first time. But when they knew the client didn’t pay for extra. They won’t deliver more extra . Remember,no free meals at all. To be a smart man, you want happy, why not make both you and masseurs happy ? But bad service and greedy masseur those excluded in the situation. You could complain and refuse to tip definitely. Anyway treat others well you will be treated well.

First of all, when you pay $60 for a massage, the masseur gets 1/3 of it. They depend on tips.

Second of all, you guys are saying "$40 an hour" is more than they can make on the street or waiting on tables. You need to remember that these guys don't work an 8-hour day. You make it sound like they make $320 a day.

Third, if a masseur ever asked me for a tip -- during the massage, no less! -- I'd complain to management, and that guy's sorry ass would be on the street real fast.

Last, and many of you may disagree, if I spend $60 for a massage, and I tip $60 (which I do at Utopia), I'm spending $120, which is probably less than I'd spend with one of my non-spa masseurs. If the experience is good, I don't mind spending $120. I go to Utopia to enjoy myself, not for a bargain.

i agree. i walked into yeah man a few months ago, not knowing what to expect and with no expectations. had a pleasant experience with an older (early 40s?) masseur, but i don't know his name. was a great, relaxing, and sensual experience. would definitely go back.

Decided to try out Shangrila and got seen right away as a walk in. Definitely agree with many of the other reviews, noise could get distracting at times. Got rodrigo(sp?), he did a good job. Also went with membership since its only $20 for two years and you get a discount and free table shower. Will make use of it when in town. Hopefully they can do something about the noise, everything else was great. Also the membership card is a quite nice metal card. Props for that design choice.

I hear you. Not unless you work for them or you are the owner of the spa. Give me an hour free massage and I’ll post a good review of your spa. Thanks in advance. lol

Haha fact is fact. Each one of us had variety experiences. Its free forum of opinion & sharing experiences. So,I just want to make sure this forum is not tricky by that therapist (himself) or the location of business with advertising hidden. Its very suspicious to end with "request / book him". It's not your problem. You guys can try but don't you think this replied is suspicious??? Be smart New Yorkers!

If you informed management at Utopia that one of their masseurs not only lied about the hourly rate, which is $60, but asked for a tip, that guy would be fired immediately.

Had my first visit to Shangrila... it certainly lives up to its name. Warmly greeted by Xiao and Mark. Delivered into the incredible hands of the amazing tall and built Jorge (George). The man knows what deep means. Left with a squeaky clean smile. Best men’s spa in nyc as far as I’m concerned.

I highly recommend establishing a relationship with Jack. I’ve not been to Shangrila but he has always steered me to the best choice available at Utopia.I don’t reserve but usually text Jack a few hours or hour before for a guy that will not only give a serious massage experience but might be interactive. As a matter of fact I’ve spent a few wonderful sessions with Jack himself.

Spa Masseurs aren’t usually licensed. Their options are working at a rub and tug or a restaurant in China town.

They are making way more as a masseur than they would serving food. I’m not trying to rip anyone off but the amount of tips some people pay is high and leads to these Masseurs acting disappointed when they get a $40 tip.

Did they say when the construction will start? I've been to Premier 57 it was a nice place inside. Anyone ever been to K-Town? I've heard about it but haven't been yet.

    Hi All,

I tried out Shangri-La for the first time yesterday and thought I would report back. The space is really nice - clean and classy and feels like an upscale spa when you are in there. Fresh flowers and all. The room that I was in was also deforated really nice and was spacious and I was immediately offered a drink, slippers, robe etc.

The owner (I assume was the owner) was really welcoming and friendly when I arrived and got me organized in my room.

My massage was with Rodrigo. He was honestly such a nice guy, checked on the pressure and temperature to make sure that I was comfortable and relaxed. He was very friendly, gave a good massage, and was also very handsome. I would definitely recommend Rodrigo if you go to this place.

The pricing definitely is a little steep, but it’s a totally different experience from visiting some of these other spas that are dingy and dirty feeling and way more cramped. So if you want more of a spa type experience, this place is worth the extra $.

He’s ok. Massage isn’t super amazing which I feel is key. But the additional parts are fun. I would see him again but definitely not if I wanted a great massage as focus.

There have been complaints here about masseurs at spas who requested tips. The WORST was the masseur who asked for a tip in the middle of the massage, and the second worst was the guy who suggested a price range. Then came the guy who gave the client a dirty "look."
WHY DON'T YOU COMPLAIN TO MANAGEMENT?
