  1. Quicken is a personal finance software product. Excel, is.. well... a spreadsheet, nothing more. With a spreadsheet, you need to design and build all functionality yourself. With Quicken, it comes out of the box (or more recently, with a download or your purchased product). Maybe a Quicken marketing video will explain it best.

I think for my situation I actually enjoy the blank canvas of a spreadsheet and customizing it exactly as I like and it looks like most features can be recreated in Excel. I'm also not a fan of subscription models. My main gripe with Excel is that I use a Mac and pivot charts are not supported, but I'm hoping those will come in a future version. Thanks for the reply!

  2. At least Quads doesn't put up with BS. I like that. He hasn't been on since Dec 2 though. Was he arrested or something?

I was gonna be in the NY area a few weeks ago and I actually checked his profile and if I remember correctly, I think it had expired. I wonder if maybe someone gifted him a month recently or something so that's why his ad appears active but he hasn't logged in

  3. The Cable Mohel arrived today!

My Cable bill will go from $175 per month down to $85 per month. Turned in my remaining two boxes and only have Internet. I use VOIP for home phone. Dropped the cable VOIP several months ago to get rid of their modem.

I just noticed that Amazon is now pairing a Digital Antenna with the FireTV and offering a discount when purchased together.

I continue to experiment with Kodi and adding the AddOns to access the Torrents that are out there.

    To be continued!

Also make sure that you're not renting the internet modem from your cable company because they're probably charging you $10+/month for that. You can buy one for ~$100 (+/- depending on the model) and you'll break even after less than a year. Congrats on saving so much money!

  4. Any pointers on Torrent training videos? I'm thinking of Kodi (AKA XBMC) also.

    Thanks!

I'd look into Plex. It's similar to Kodi but much more user friendly to use and to set up in my opinion. It's free, but you can also pay for a "Plex Pass" to get some extra features. For most people (especially those new to this), the free version will be more than adequate. There are a bunch of guides/videos on how to set it up, and reddit.com/r/plex is a great resource as well. I'm very familiar with it too so if you have any questions about it/setting it up/using it, etc. then feel free to PM me!

Edit: Just adding an article link to compare Plex and Kodi.

  5. I'd definitely recommend getting rid of cable. They just give you hundreds of channels so it looks like you're getting a lot for your money when in reality you only watch a few of the channels. Just grab a box so you can stream on your TV (my favorite and recommendation is the new Apple TV but if you hate Apple or want something cheaper you can get the Amazon Fire TV or Roku). There's no reason to pay $100/month (or even more) for cable when there are so many other options. Netflix is good for $8 per month. If you have Amazon Prime already they have Prime Instant Video which has some good content (note: Prime isn't worth getting for the videos, but it's a nice feature if you already have it for the free shipping). Forget Hulu, you have to pay for it and there are still ads. Another option if you love live tv is Sling. It's $20/month for the basic package, and you can add different ones for more money (like a sports package, kids package, HBO, etc.) and that will give you live tv. Sling is good for someone who just wants to sit down and turn on a channel rather than watching a specific show on Netflix. Just note that with Sling, since it's basically live tv there will be commercials (and you can't skip them). Just watch out for them to jack up your internet price when you cancel cable. Comcast will try to do that because they're evil. I usually just get a promotional rate from them (like $30/month) for a year, then when the year is up and they try to jack up the price I call and get them to give me the promo rate again. With Comcast especially, but also other service providers, make sure to check your bill every month because they are notorious for increasing prices for no reason.
