I was junior in college in early 1964 in Boston where Barbra Streisand and company were doing the out of town tryout of 'Funny Girl.' The needed a lot of work. And Barbra was actually directing herself.
People forget that both 'Hello, Dolly' and 'Funny Girl' opened at the same time on Broadway in 1964. Both musicals were enormous hits. The succcess of Dolly was unexpected. Carol Channing was not the first or second choice for Dolly Levi. Yet she was a sensation in the role. And she is still with us in her 90s. Bless her.
