There are many homeless here in Philadelphia also. Horrors, they are even drinking free coffee in the local Starbucks, across from the Barnes Foundation. @Epigonos, occasionally, I am embarrassed for you and your comments, especially this comment about Santa Monica.

Writing that Ethel Merman's acting was very broad is a stretch, especially since you never saw her in Broadway show.

Benjamin, New York had about a dozen newspapers in 1959. I was young myself back then, barely knew who Merman was until I listened to the cast album. Merman stayed with the musical in New York for two years and then toured with "Gypsy" for another year. It was the first time she ever tried such a long national tour. And then she turned down "Hello, Dolly."

Ethel Merman's acting in movies and Television is broad, but not in "Gypsy." I saw Merman and Daly in "Gypsy" and I strongly disagree with your characterize of the two performances. Read the reviews when the musical opened in 1959.

Merman and Martin never worked togetlher n a Broadway Musical. But, they often appeared at the same benefit concerts and Television shows. Martin is known mostly now for "Peter Pan" on Broadway and several live shows in the 1950s and a tape version from 1960. Martin and Pinza in "South Pacific"

Merman often said she never had voice lessons. Both Merman and Martin appeared in Cole Porter musicals. Martin in Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway shows.

Why would you ask that question? He is not an escort. I was friends with a male model in college; he specialized in underwear, I believe. He lived in Brookline, Massachusetts. We were friends so I wasn't interested very much in his time as a model, and never saw any of his photos as a model.

What's are very rich nimbys? Is it a term used decades ago? I agree traffic is bad at rush hour in Santa Monica and Malibu. But there are major compensations, such as Tapango Canyon and restaurants in Malibu. And when visiting, I have learned to time driving to LA away from the busiest drive time.
