  1. Not really an issue in Europe as surcharging is essentially banned for consumer transactions - so they're not allowed to charge more but not obligated to take cards. This is coupled with a much lower interchange fee cap of 0.03% for credit and 0.02% for debit cards than the US means merchant fees are generally lower. You usually see cash only if it's a takeaway, barbers or just before a larger store goes bust as their bank has withdrawn card processing.
  2. North African guys (working in tourist hotels) are usually fairly open to doing discreet stuff - either for free or for a minimal tip. Regarding a hotel spa, simply enquire about the packagedó massage options. I would avoid ladies anyway as they tend to give lacklustre massages.
  3. A guy casually mentioned he'd been inside for under two years. Nothing violent. We were already at mine but made sure he didn't know my full address (I picked him up & dropped off a distance away in the evening) and dropped a fake roommate who lived in my spare room periodically into the conversation. I'd already packed away anything valuable or small enough to be quickly pocketed to remove any temptations. To be fair, I'd have done much the same regardles.
