Received today from a friend:

This afternoon at Union Square in San Francisco, there was a group of people protesting the war in Iraq. About 200 feet away near the BART escalators was a much smaller group of counter protesters supporting the war.

As I was riding up the escalator from the BART station, an elderly woman was in front of me getting off the escalator and a young (20ish) female supporter of George W. Bush's war tried to hand her a pamphlet, which she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship, and in a very soft voice said, "M'am, don't you care about our soldiers in Iraq?"

The old woman looked up at her and said, "Miss, do not question my patriotism. My father died in France during WW II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a nephew in Vietnam. This war is illegal and was based on lies. If you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."
