This is what the good people of Utah are doing:

From the Salt Lake Tribune:

One of the many Fillmore residents who bought raffle tickets from Krista Iverson at Fillmore's July Fourth celebration could win a .22-caliber rifle, but Krista's husband will get much more.

Lt. Robert Iverson, a Fillmore native, is in Iraq with Marine Artillery Unit 511 out of Camp Pendleton, Calif. Although the unit is on the front lines, the military has not equipped its AR16 rifles with scopes -- which obviously could better enable the soldiers to see their targets.

The Tapco company has donated 30 scopes, but Iverson's battalion needs 124, at a cost of $70 each. Krista has raised $1,200, but considering Fillmore probably won't have another festival until July 24, the mother of two is hopeful people will donate funds in her husband's name at any Zions bank.

Is it unreasonable, to ask the HooBoy crowd to do the same? I will be the first to pledge $10 for one of 50 tickets for a chance to spend an hour with the escort of my choice. (Maybe we can even make a list of escorts willing to donate their services, or work for a reduced fee.)

This is a JOKE post right? :7 I think it is since it is in the same genre as Jonathan Swift's modest proposal for the Irish! :)

Gee, an auction by the good Mormon community in Utah, with top prize being a gun, no less! With proceeds going to service men to provide scopes for assault rifles, when, after all if necessary, wouldn't the Defense Department provide them at the taxpayers' expense?!

I COULDN'T possibly conceive of a more WORTHY cause than to provide rifle scopes to American troops to make DAMN sure they hit all those Iraqi babies between the eyes! After all, what good is shooting a baby in the leg, resulting in an amputated one-legged baby, except to suck off our resources? Besides, ever seen a nine month old baby try to crawl using crutches? NOW that is some FUNNY shit! MUCH better off if we shoot them DEAD on the first shot! ;(

Hey, I KNOW that I for ONE, would love to purchase a minimum of 20 tickets, as after all, that is only a 1 hour fee for most escorts, KNOWING that if win or lose, my money is SUPPORTING the FINAL solution to the Mideast problem! :p

RE: A Modest Proposal to Support our Boys

as an exmilitary man speaking (viet nam era navy vet), OUR troops deserve our support; they did not pick this fight and are doing a great job that doesn't get much coverage. direct your anger at our political leaders but not our boys. they need our support and prayers as do their families. most local areas have support groups that can use our assistence.
