Ex-UN prosecutor urges global arrest warrant for Putin

"In interviews given to Swiss media to mark the release of her latest book, the Swiss lawyer who oversaw U.N. investigations in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia said there were clear war crimes being committed in Ukraine.

She said she was particularly shocked by the use of mass graves in Russia's war on Ukraine, which recalls the worst of the wars in the former Yugoslavia.

“I hoped never to see mass graves again,” she told the newspaper Blick. “These dead people have loved ones who don’t even know what’s become of them. That is unacceptable.”

Other war crimes she identified in Ukraine included attacks on civilians, the destruction of civilian buildings and even the demolishing of entire villages."

War crimes are committed in every single war.

Where was this former UN hag during Iraq???  Where has she been for the past 7 years while a genocide has been taken place in Yemen?????  Over 400,000 civilians dead there, & these UN/EU/NATO creatures say nothing about it.

Russia isn’t doing anything that prominent NATO members haven’t done several times before.  Enough of the self-righteousness/hypocrisy!

And that is THE problem: selective prosecution.  This was brought home to me decades ago when I began business travel  to meet people from other countries and get to know them well on a personal level.  Over the years I heard from Germans “Why did they bomb our civilians?”  I heard from Japanese how the U.S. started WWII with its embargo of products on Japan and then caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians in different bombings.  In Milan, an Italian friend complained how both Axis and Allied forces bombed them depending on who controlled the city with his remark: “Everyone bombed us!”

It could be claimed that Syria is a proxy war with multiple major forces behind different factions who are murdering civilians.  And so it goes around the world with not only foreign powers violating human rights but many countries domestically violating human rights (think: China, Cuba, North Korea, etc).

You are correct.  Complete honesty would find almost everyone guilty.  Of course, the defense would be “Our cause was/is just.”  Then we get the thorny issue: Do the ends justify the means?  Unfortunately, the “winner” writes history and they are the one who decide what is justified in pursuit of their final, winning goal/ends.😥

You may have a point regarding Yemen, but the US/NATO were not doing what the Russians are now doing. I did hear of a couple of US soldiers who intentionally killed some civilians they thought were spies, and those individual soldiers were prosecuted. However, in Ukraine clearly innocent civilians were targeted, mowed down, and dumped into mass graves (or in some cases left to die on the streets). Thousands of innocent civilians in Ukraine have been murdered by what is clearly policy, and Putin is obviously aware and doing nothing to stop it, even if it can't be proven that he gave the specific order.

You tell him.
His best friends still sit a mile away, and it ain’t about COVID.

In 16th century England, it used to be said that the most dangerous position was to be a friend or lover of Henry VIII, because he usually turned on them, and often tortured and killed them. Putin's "friends" probably have the same anxiety about criticizing him in any way.
