Hibbing, Minnesota, is known as the iron-ore capital of our country. There are at least two very well known "producers" who hail from this area: Chi Chi LaRue, aka Larry David Paciotti, born on November 8, 1959, and Bob Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman (Hebrew name Shabtai Zisel ben Avraham)was born on May 24, 1941.

Might not someone wonder what in the culture of Hibbing produced these two?

Perhaps, but more likely it is entirely a coincidence. The two you mentioned would not appear to have much in common except the locality.

Modesty prevents ncm from reporting that Hibbing is also home to

the "Grand Canyon of the North", the World's Largest Open Pit Iron Ore Mine is located on the north edge of Hibbing. Visitors to the viewing area can watch mining in action as they gaze out over a pit that stretches 3.5 miles long, 1.5 miles wide and reaches a depth of 535 feet! This pit now encompasses more than 50 individual mines and since 1895 more than 800 million tons of iron ore have been removed. No doubt ncm derives inspiration for many of his posts while contemplating the natural beauty of this rust pit.

Hibbing is also home to the Greyhound Bus Museum, a must see exhibit that, while missing a Ralph Cramden, allows you to actually see a clean bus that doesn't smell.

It's not in the iron. It's in the water. <<GG>>

b/t/w. Ralph Cramden drove a New York City bus not a Greyhound. He's properly enshrined in a statue in front of the Port Athority Bus Terminal (which Greyhound buses use) on Eighth Avenue in New York.
