DESCRIPTION:\n	Juneteenth day\, a June 19 holiday\, celebrates and symbo

ssued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22\, 1862. It was not unt

t was when General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston\, Texas with his tro
ops and issued Order Number 3 which finally freed the last of the slaves.\
n\n\n\n	The formal end of slavery was marked by the passing of the 13th am
endment of the constitution.\n\n\n\n	In 2021\, Juneteenth became a Federal
holiday. The formal name is Juneteenth National Independence Day. It is
sometimes referred to as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day.\n\n\n\n	\n

DESCRIPTION:\n	U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson\, the “Father of Earth Da
y”\, initiated and promoted eco-friendly environmental actions and activ
ities beginning in 1962. He convinced then President John F. Kennedy to to
ur the nation in support of environmental concerns. This initial effort di
d not spark national concern at a political level to effect change.\n\n\n\
n	 But Senator Nelson continued his pursuit of increased environmental co
ncern and action. He proposed a National Earth Day in 1970. It was to be
the first nationwide environmental protest “to shake up the political e
stablishment and force this issue onto the national agenda”. On April 22
\, 1970\, the timing was right and the first Earth Day protest received
astounding support.\n\n\n\n	On that first Earth Day\, an estimated 20 mill
ion Americans took to the street in support of the environment and in prot
est of harmful environmental practices. Never mind that “protests” wer
e in vogue at the time. This effort produced a lasting impact on the envir
onment and brought about greater awareness that our planet had limited res
ources and that our ecosystem was self-contained and finite. The things we
are putting in the air\, water\, and earth were impacting us.\n\n\n\n	\n\
